Only edition of this rare polemical work and critical review of the Christian book Matthaeus (Mathew) by R. Samuel Schmelke ben David Weintraub. There are Hebrew and German title pages. The more detailed Hebrew title page states that it is intended to reveal the defects and alert those who love truth about it, as to its falsehood and worthlessness. Its foolishness will be proven to the eyes of all . The German title page states that it is, Sefer Milchemeth Samuel oder das Buch Matthaeus kritisch beleuchtet von... S. Weintrraub. There is an introduction from R. Weintraub which begins in verse and lists predecessors to the founder of Christianity who rebelled against G-d, beginning with Nimrod. A letter to the publisher, M. Blumenthal, follows, then verse from R. Jonathon Eybeschütz (1690-1764), and the text, in a single column in square letters. Milhemet Shemu’el lists statements from Matthaeus followed by refutations. This copy of Milhemet Shemu’el is bound in its original wrappers.
