Description		    Enactments of the charitable organization, Central Committee Knesseth-Israel Jerusalem (Palestine). The title page and text are in Hebrew and there is an English summary at the end. It is issued by the Kupat (Charitable Organization) Rabbi Meir Ba’al ha-Nes of the Ashkenazim, Perushim, and Hasidim of the holy cities of Jerusalem, Hebron, Safed, and Tiberias. The Englishsection describes the origin and purpose of the organization, that is. “to a very ancient custom which exists among Jews throughout the world to maintain charitable and benevolent Institutions in the Holy Land.” It notes that in the year 5627 (1867) the disparate Jewish communities in Erez Israel established a central committee under the leadershipof R. Mayer Auerbach and Chief Rabbi Samuel Salant to regulate the collection of alms and to see to their distribution in an orderly and thorough manner. It describes the comittes primary activities as supporting various needy groups, such as widows, orphans, and the aged, as well as proselytes who are not part of any organized community, whether in Erez Israel or elsewhere. In addition aid is provided to the unemployed or women in confinement, and to the needy for festivals. Funds are also distributed to maintain hospitals, synagogues and other holy places, such as the Western Wall. Management of the fund is under R. Chaim Berlin supported by an executive committee of ten representatives elected by twenty settlere congregations representing 25,000 persons.
