Detailed
Description
German language prayer book for women arranged by Jacob Freund of Breslau. The title is Hanna: Gebet- und Andachtsbuch für israelitische Frauen und Mädchen (Hanna: Prayer and devotional for Jewish women and girls). Jacob Freund is described as a teacher in the religious school of the municipal synagogue of Breslau. Included are contributions from Dr. A. Geiger, Dr. M. Güdmann, Dr. M. Joël, and Professor Dr. M. Levy. Facing the title page is a full page depiction of Moses holding the tablests of the law with the words Shema Yisrael above in Hebrew in large letters and immediately below in German in smaller letters. There is a dedication to Mrs. Rebecka Freund, a forward from the author, and then a table of contents. The table of contents is comprised of major headings and then detailed listings with the page numbers. The major headings are Sabbath and festivals. The second part of Gebet- und Andachtsbuch is häusliche Andacht (domestic devotion). At the end of the volume are jarhzeit and cemetery prayers. The text is primarily in German (fraktur) with limited Hebrew. The front cover has a gold representation of a seated reflective woman under a pillared canopy.
