Responsa from R. Solomon ben Judah ha-Kohen. The title page has a decorative border and begins, “‘This is the book of the generations of [a great] man’ (Genesis 5:1) ‘The Jews had light’ (Esther 8:16)” It was as if his hands had eaten from the tree of knowledge, picking wisdom and Torah. The title page is dated from the verse, “and he shall begin éçì to save Israel éùøàì (589 = 1829)” (Judges 13:5). The text follows, in two columns, set in rabbinic type excepting headers and initial words, which are in square letters. Within the responsa section are novellae by R. Solomon. On 87a begin discourses for Shabbat ha-gadol and a eulogy. The book concludes with an attractive tail-piece. Sha’ot de-Rabbanan is printed on a fine white paper.
