Detailed
Description
The opening column gives the text of the El Maleh liturgy followed by a blessing for the President, Vice President, and the sextons. Columns 2-6 are lists of male victims, columns 7-8 list female victims. About 150 names appear in the scroll with names added in the margins throughout the scroll. Approximately 250,000 Jews served in the U.S. Armed Forces in World War I during 1917 and 1918, a majority of them young immigrants. Some 3,500 lost their lives, and 12,000 were wounded.
