Detailed
Description
Manuscript containing, as stated on the title page, the order of prayers to be customarily recited by a “Wife of [One’s] Youth” (Isaiah 54:6) on the night of Rosh HaShanah prior to davening ma’ariv. Within the volume are piyyutim (liturgical poetry) to be recited both nights of Rosh HaShanah. These prayers, based on Psalms, are followed by piyyutim to be stated prior to and after blowing the shofar, and in the latter prayers there are two small depictions of a face blowing shofar. Next is a pizmon to be recited on the night of Simhat Torah. The text is written in clear attractive square letters, some vocalized, and the Tetragrammaton is given in a manuscript form of two yodin followed by an inverted gimmel. This is a beautiful and moving piece.
