A call to men, women and children to come to a demonstration against the arrest of tens of religious men who were arrested and sentenced to 10 months in prison. In a cruel and sadistic fashion they were taken out of a yeshiva where they “were killing themselves in the tent of Torah” and placed in Ramle prison together with murderers.
What was the sin of those arrested? They went out to demonstrate and to call out to Hashem against a swimming pool which is described as an abomination which is destroying the holiness of the city of Jerusalem. There were “trials” in the manner of Moscow. L. Avrahami, the commander of the Jerusalem district is named saying that he wants to continue the game after the ‘holiday” of Independence Day.
The appeal is made to all Haredim to come out and demonstrate and pray and just as G-d answered the prayers of Hananiah*, Mishael* and Azariah* in the furnace, He should answer us.
* Hananiah ("The Lord was gracious"), Mishael (perhaps "Who is what God is?"), and Azariah ("The Lord helped") three young men of aristocratic Judahite stock who together with Daniel were taken into the Babylonian court of Nebuchadnezzar because of their handsome appearance, wisdom, and ability to learn. In accordance with known practice they were assigned Babylonian names and taught the language and literature of the Chaldeans (probably Akkadian). Refusing to be defiled by eating pagan food, the youths providentially throve on a diet of grains and greatly surpassed the wisdom of all the king's magicians (Dan. 1). They quickly rose in rank, Daniel attaining the position in the "King's Gate" and the other three being put in charge of the "administration" of the province of Babylon (Dan. 2:49). The three refused to worship the pagan image erected by Nebuchadnezzar, were cast into a fiery furnace, and miraculously emerged alive. Nebuchadnezzar acknowledged the greatness of their G-d and confirmed their rule in Babylonia (Dan. 3). |
