Announcement for a memorial service following the death of R. Zalman Yaakov Friederman (who died and was buried in Jerusalem). The service was to take place in Roxbury, Massachusetts at the Shaari Tefilah Synagogue on Monday, February 10, 1936. Eulogies were to be delivered by R. Eliezer Silver, of Cincinnati on behalf of the Agudat HaRabbanim of the United States and Canada, Rabbi Chaim Silver of Worcester, Massachusetts on behalf of the Vaad Ha-Rabbanim of Massachusetts, R. Rabinowitz and R. Israelite in the name of the Vaad Ha-Rabbanim of Boston, R. Avraham HaLevi Lifshitz, the R. of Fall River, Massachusetts, the brother-in-law of the deceased, and R. Binyamin Ha-Levi Lifshitz, the nephew of the deceased, speaking on behalf of the family.
R. Friederman (the son of Barukh Mordekhai.) was born circa 1865 in Merkine, (which is in Lithuania today) and he died on the tenth day of Tevet in 5696 (1936). He died while visiting Jerusalem and was buried there.
He authored five books: Emet v’Emunah which was published in 1895, Minhat Yaakov, published in 1901, Nahalat Yaakov, published in 1914, Shoshanat Yaakov, published in 1927 and Shaarit Nahalah (n.d.). He served as a Rabbi in Amsterdam, New York and Boston (where he served for 43 years).
