Detailed
Description
Sermon delivered by R. Armand Bloch. The title page derscribes it as Jour de Jeune, Jour de Fete ( A day in June, a day of Festival). It is a sermon delivered at the Temple Israelite de Bruxelles on Yom Kippur 5671 (October 13, 1910) be R. Bloch, Grand Rabbi of Belgium. There is a half-title page and then the text, which, accept for occasional Hebrew is entirely in French. The sermon begins with two quotes, both from Psalms, “What is man, that you are mindful of him? And the son of man, that you visit him?” (8:5) and “For you have made him a little lower than the angels” (8:6). R. Armand introduces his theme by asking contrasting the meaning of these two verses. His sermon develops that thesis in terms of Yom Kippur, concluding that Yom Kippur is a time of purification, “Then I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and you shall be purified.” (Ezekiel 36:25).
