Description		    Only edition. 62 [i.e. 63] ff., 290:185 mm., wide margins, usual light age and damp staining. A very good copy bound in contemporary half leather and marbled paper boards, rubbed.

Description		    Commentary on the book of Kohelet by R. Israel Nahman ben Joseph Drohbitsher. The title page describes it as, “pleasant to the sight” (Genesis 2:9) of all Israel on every verse and on every word. “Set upon sockets of fine gold” (Song of Songs 6:15), with introductions from the Talmud, midrashim, and sayings of the holy Zohar, to explain it according to their words, with. “the instruction of wisdom” (Proverbs 1:3) according to a person’s understanding for “the spirit of man goes upward” (Ecclesiastes 4:21). The title page is dated, “Who is like the wise man? and who knows the meaning פשר (580 = 1820) of a matter?” (Ecclesiastes 8:1). The verso of the title page has the disclaimer as to confusing current gentiles with the idolaters of old. Next are approbations from several rabbis followed by R. Drohbitsher’s introduction and his blessing to those whose support made publication possible. The text follows with Kohelet in the center of the page in square vocalized Hebrew and along the sides and about it the commentary Hemdat Yisrael in rabbinic type. Hemdat Yisrael is a lengthy, detailed, and comprehensive commentary. At the end of t he volume is Kuntres Kahal Yisrael on the Maharsha, an index, errata, and concluding with an alphabetical prayer. There are some minor errors in the foliation. Hemdat Yisrael is printed on a heavy clear paper stock.
