Description		    Novellae from several distinguished rabbis on tractates from the Babylonian Talmud collected and published by R. Shabbatai ben Moses of Tiktin. The title page has the attractive architectural frame associated with the printer Hayyim ben Zevi Hirsch which has a vignette at the top with a tree encircled by a serpand facing a horse and at the bottom a tree with two fish at the right and a crab at the left. Mentioned on the title page are R. Abraham Broda (d. 1717) who served as rabbi in Metz and Frankfort a. Main; the Hakham Zevi (R. Zevi Hirsch Ashkenbazi, 1660-1718); and R. Jacob Kohen, av be din in Frankfort a. Main. It notes that within the volume are novellae form othger feonim and well known rabbis. The title page is dated with the verse, “Look down from your holy habitation, from heaven, and bless your people Israel” (Deuteronomy 26:15). There are approbations from R. Samuel Heilman, R. Isaac Zelig called Kra, R. Mordecai ben Abrham of Lissa, R. Samuel Zunvil Weil, and R. Isaac Zekel Et Hozen, followed by the author’s (compiler) introduction and the disclaimer against confusing contemporary gentiles with idolators of old. The text, in two columns in rabbinic type, begins with tractate Berakhot and concludes with Hullin.
