Detailed Description |
|
Allowing the use of etrogim from Corfu on Sukkot by R. Joseph ben Raphael and R. Bezalel ben Moses ha-Kohen of Vilna (1820-68). A controversy arose in the second half of the nineteenth century concerning the permissibility of using etrogim from the island of Corfu (not to be confused with the later blood libel in Corfu which resulted in a boycot of etrogim from the island of Corfu). Hora’at Hetter was in turn a response to the position of R. Gershon Hanuch Leiner (Radzyner Rebbe, 1839-91), expressed in his Sidrei Tohorot on the subject. In response came, Tokhahat Megulah (Mainz 1876) by R. Moses R”m (=Rosh Mesivta) in Kovno, who is in fact R. Zevi Hirsch Rabbinowitz, a detailed scholarly argument against the position of those rabbinic figures who permit the usage of etrogim from Corfu. |
