Detailed
Description
Essays on aspects of Jewish art over the centuries in Yugoslavia by Dr. Jur. Lavoslav Šik. The title page, in black and blue ink, describes Dr. Šik as the first head of the Jewish Municipal cultural organization in Zagreb (Erstem Viaepräsidentum der jüdischen Kultusgemeinde in Zagreb). The volume begins with an introduction and then the eight essays, which are Amatus Lusitanus, Der Arzt Saloman Tobie in Split, Der Wunderarzt Michel und andere jüdische Ärzte in Slowenien, Isaac Effendi Salom und seine Vorgänger in Jugosawien zur Tükenzeit, Dr. Siegfried Kapper, Dr. Moritz Sacs in Zagreb, Zwei Ärzte als Präsidentum der Beiden Jüdischen Gemeinden in Beograd, and Die Jüdischen Ärzte im heutigen Jugoslawien. After the essays there is an additional piece entitled Die Bedeutung der Geschichte der Medizin in Allgemeinen und jener in den Sudslawischen ländern im Besonderen (On the meaning of the history of the medicine in general in the southern lands in particular). The volume concludes with eleven plates, consisting of photographs, drawings, title facsimile pages, a letter in English to Captain Albala from from the Serbian minister Milenko Vesnić on the formers emigration to Palestine, and lastly the title page of the American Weekly Jewish News, March 29, 1918, marching in uniform down Fifth Avenue in New York.

Jüdische Ärzte in Jugoslawien is rare. The New York Public Library has a microfilm copy only. In contrast, this copy is almost as new.
