Description
A handbook on Jewish ritual and the Jewish year by Adolf Hlawatsch. The title page describes it as Das Synagogenjahr: Handbüchlein der jüdischen Liturgik für Schule und Haus Von Adolf Hlawatsch ; mit Zugaben von Daniel Ehrmann, that is, the Synagogue year. A handbook of Jewish liturgy for school and home with additions by Daniel Ehrmann. The verso of the title page has brief prefatory remarks from the author followed by the text. Within the book, which is in a single column in Frakltur with occasional Hebrew, there is an introduction and then an overview of the Jewish year, beginning with Shabbat, special Shabbats. Such as Shabbat Teshuvah, Shabbat Bereishit, parashat Shekalim, parashat Zekor, Parah, ha-Hodesh, etc. Next are the festivals, beginning with Pesah, intermediate days of the holiday, through the fifteenth of Shevat. Then comes a discussion of fast days, followed by religious practices, such as prayer, milah, mezuzah, tefilin, zizit, and Hallah. The volume concludes with mourning customs. Das Synagogenjahr is a brief but comprehensive overview of Jewish practice through the year.
