Detailed
Description
First edition of these sermons (eulogies) in German by Benedict Hause. The title page has a Hebrew heading, Alon bakhut, which has the same meaning as the German title, Leichenreden, that is, eulogies. The title page describes Hause as a Lehrer an der öffentlichen Schule (public school teacher) in Neukirchen (Kurhessen). There is an introduction from Hause followed by a Hebrew dedication to his teacher in torah and conduct, faith and ethics, his father, R. David ben Tuviah, repeated on the following page in German. Next is a table of contents listing eighteen discourses, examples of the subject being: suffering of the Age (Die Leiden im Alter); life is a struggle (Das Leben ein Kampf); the grey head a crown (Das graue haupt eine krone); from God is life and death (Gott tödtet und belebt); the death of the pious (Der Tod des Frommen); God is fair and benevolent (Gott ist gerecht und gnädig); and David at the death of his child (David beim Tode seines Kindes). The text is in a single column in Fraktur.

Hause was also the author of several additional volumes of sermons.
