Description		    Halakhic novellae on all four parts of the Shulhan Arukh by R. Raphael ben Mordecai Berdugo, one of the early sages of Morocco. The title page has a red frame comprised of three part leaves. Th etitle and place of publication are also in red, the remainder of the text is in blue. It is deep pilpulim by the malakh, R. Raphael Berdugo, wha was av bet din in Meknes, “causing the sleepers’ lips to murmur” (Song of Songs 8:10). It is dated, “full with the blessing ומלא ברכת (699 = 19139) of the Lord” (Deuteronomy 33:23). There is a list of the subscribers who made publication possible, and introductions (approbations) by R. Jacob Berdugo, a descendant of the author, R. Joshua ben Jacob Berdugo, R. Moses benJoseph toledano, R. Raphael Baruch ben Jacob Toledano, R. Jacob ben Solomon Berdugo, and R. Shalom Maimon Masas. The text is in two columns in rabbinic type, excepting headers and initial words. Torat Emet begins with Orah Hayyim and covers all four parts of the Shulhan Arukh. At the end, beginning on 139b, is kizzur bedikat ha-Riah.

R. Raphael Berdugo (1747–1821) belonged to the famed Berdugo family, noted for its many distinguished rabbis in Morocco, chiefly in Meknes. According to tradition, the family was of Davidic descent through the exilarch Bustanai. He was the author, in addition to Torat Emet, of the following works: Mishpatim Yesharim, responsa (2 vols., 1891), and Mei Menuhot, a commentary on the Pentateuch (2 vols., 1900–42). Other works are still in manuscript, including translations of the Bible
