Detailed
Description
Hyam Isaacs (b. 1794), a converted Jew, wrote this book on the customs and practices of Judaism which is addressed to Christian readers. The subtitle of the book reads: ... interspersed with gleanings from the Jerusalem and Babylonian Talmud, and the Targums, Mishna, Gemara, Maimonides, Abarbanel, Zohar, Aben-Ezra, Oral Law, etc. etc. in a manner never before published. Also, a copious selection from some of their prayers, as translated and used by the Polish and German Jews, at the present time in their different synagogues.

The author's goal, as he states in his introduction, is that "these gleanings…may have the effect of stirring you [the Christian reader] up to love, pity and pray for the people whom God formerly loved, and will eventually save."
