Description
On the history of and prayers in the synagogue by Dr. Rothschild. The title, Der Synagogal-Cultus in historisch - kritischer Entwickelung describes it as being on the historical critical development of the synagogue. It has the subtitle, populär dargestellt (presented in a popular format). Der Synagogal-Cultus is in two parts, the first on prayers (gebete), the second on customs (gebräuche). There is a forward from Dr. Rothschild, who is not further identified, followed by a table of contents listing the book’s fifteen chapters. Those chapters are on Shaharit prayers (with ùîò, áøëå and related benedictions); tefillah, birkat kohanim (Der Priestersegen); Tahanun; Pesukei de-Zimra; Birkhat ha-Shahar; Schlussgebete (concluding prayers, that is, kaddish, ashrei, through pitum ketoret); Mussaf; Hallel; Minhah; Ma’ariv; Neilah; Hanukkah and Purim; Torah readings, eulogies; and piyyutim. The text, set in a single column in Fraktur, has accompanying footnotes.
