Catalogue of books for sale by Jacob ben Menaham Mendel ha-Kohen Ginsburg. The catalogue, number eight from this dealer, enumerates 911 titles for sale. Each entry gives the lot number, the book title, often with a brief description of the contents, when available the year and place of publication and the price. The catalogue begins with a word to the reader with information as to the contents. All old books are in excellent condition, complete and bound. There is a discount for volume purchases, and all books, with rare exception, are available by the dealer and sales are on a first come first served basis. There are, in addition to the older books, also new books available from the dealer. Postal fees and other conditions of sale are noted. Other books not in the catalogue can be ordered from the dealer and they will, with a brief delay, be delivered.
The great value of this catalogue is the large and comprehensive list of close to 1,000 Hebrew books with their prices at the beginning of the twentieth century in Russia. The first entry is for an “Abudraham, commentary on prayers for the entire year with the dinim from a kadmon, Prague 1784, 1 – 4. There is an Abarbanel on the Torah, Venice, 1579, an attractive copy but incomplete, 4 – 2. Many books exist in several editions, for example, there are six Yam Shel Shelomos, one on the entire Talmud, the others on individual tractates, all printed in different locations. The final entry, no. 911, is for a Tefilla le-Moshe by R. M. Almosnino, Salonika 1563, 2 – 4.
