Detailed
Description		    Only edition of these novellae on tractates by R. Raphael Shalom Hai ben Joseph ha-Kohen. The title page describes it as part one on ten tractates, although there is no record of any other part having been printed. The initial word of each line of the title page forms an acrostic of the author’s name. It is dated, “And he brought out his people with joy, and his chosen את בחיריו (637 = 1877) with gladness” (Psalms 105:43). There are approbations from R. Abraham Hagag of Tunis, R. Abraham Ashkenazi (Jerusalem), מעט דב"ש (R. David ben Shimon, Jerusalem), R. Elijah Hai Borgal of Tunis, R. Abraham ibn Mosaes Abukara, and from Livorno R. Abraham Tolosa, R. Elijah ben Amozog and R. Israel Kushta, and lastly from R. R. Ezriel Hildeshimer of Berlin. Between the last two approbations is the author’s introduction. A list of the sponsors who made publication possible follows, and then t he text, which is in two columns in rabbinic type. The tractates for which there are novellae are Bava Mezia, Makkot, Shevu’ot, Rosh HaShanah, Mo’ed Katan, Ta’anit, Megillah, Tamid, and Kinnim.
