Detailed
Description
Poem in Hebrew with Judeo-Persian translation in verse, in the spirit of moralism. The Akedah to the moralists was a fertile text for the inculcation of religious and ethical values. Typical is the observation of R. Isaiah Horowitz (Shenei Luhot ha-Berit, Va-Yera, end) that the Akedah teaches that everything must be sacrificed to G-d, if needs be; how much more, then, must man be willing to give up his lusts for G-d. Moreover, whenever man has an opportunity of doing good, or refraining from evil, he should reflect that perhaps G-d is testing him at that moment as He tested Abraham. The poem is recited in the morning Rosh Ha'Shannah service by many North African communities.
