Description		    Eulogy for R. Solomon Kavatisch delivered by his son-in-law, R. Zev Wolf Langfelder. The title page states that is on the passing of the late gaon, R. R. Solomon Kavatisch, who was av bet din of Pisling for three years and afterwards accepted as av bet din and rosh mesivta in Lipnik, where he spread Torah for twenty-five years, raising may students, and from there he went to his biorthplace N”Sh to be av bet din. After five months of providing “water for the congregation” (Numbers 20:2, Joshua 9:27) and the yeshivah, there his sun set through no iniquity and his light extinguished. It is dated Thursdqay, parasha Mishputim, 24 Shevat 456 (January 21, 1856). The title page is followed by brief prefatory remarks by R. Langfelderm who writes that in the past week he wrote to R. Solomon Judah Rappaport for advice on how to honor the deceased, and that night the form of that righteous one appeared to him, inquiring as to why he had not yet published his hesped. R. Langfelder responded by noting a similar case. However, immediately upon arising in the morning he attempted to record the hesped he had delivered. He has hastened its publication so that it would be complete within the year of the deceased’s death. The text of the hesped follows in two columns in rabbinic type.
