Detailed
Description
Eulogy for his mother by R. Samuel ben Leib Back. The title page has Hebrew and German text, the former saying that it is Me’il Katan (the small mantle) in which I wrapped myself to do the service in the Temple on the day that my mother died. It is dated, “the day that my goodly mother died éåîà îúä àîðå äèåáä.” Below iwsthe German text, Ein Reislein gepflanzt in den Dichtergarten Jacob’s (A rice flax planted in the garden of the poet), and the author’s name, whi is described as a philosophy student. There are prefatory remarks in Hebrew, a dedication in German, to his honest religious mother, frau Zipporah Back, born Eisler, on the anniversary of her passing in childlike reverence (an ihren in sterbetage in kindlicher Ehrfurcht gewdment). Next is a page of verse in German and then the Hebrew versified text in square vocalized letters. At the end of the book is an ethical piece in rabbinic letters, a bakasha, and finally a page in German on the twentieth anniversary of here death (Sterbetage).
