Detailed
Description
Hebrew-Latin lexicon by William Robertson (D. Robertsono, d. c. 1686) together with a Chaldean-Biblicum appendix by the renowned philologist, Johann Leusden. The title page of the Lexicon novum hebraeo-latinum, ad modum Lexici Schreveliani graeci is printed in red and Black and has a device comprised of a scantily clad American Indian woman holding sheaves facing a helmeted man holding a native mask in his right hand and a book in his left hand. There is a dedication to D. Cornelio a Domburch, JCto, a preface, and a page with the verse, in Hebrew and Latin, “Commit your way to the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass” (Psalms 37:5), a list of abbreviations and the text, which is in two columns. Entries in Lexicon novum hebraeo-latinum are arranged according to the Hebrew alphabet; each entyry begins with the word in Hebrew, its Latin translation, part of speech, gender, and at least one other form of the word, such as plural, imperfect or the infinitive. The Chaldean-Biblicum appendix has its own title page, set entirely in black but with the same device, and its own pagination. The signatures of the two parts, however, are continuous. Here too there is a list of abbreviations. The format of the text is like that of the Lexicon novum hebraeo-latinum. Concerning Johann Leusden, see the description of the preceding work, Compendivm V. Testamenti Hebraeo-Chaldaicum.
