Description		    Verse in honor of Havurot Dorshei Loshon Ever by Shimon Baraz בר"ז (= ben Zanvil). The title page states that it is in the period (anniversary) of the founding of the society of those who study the Hebrew language (Dorshei Loshon Ever). The author informs that he was urged to write this piece for the occasion until he was ashamed, finally agreeing, saying “but this once; let me try” (cf. Judges 6:39), if still the maidens who love poetry will care for me (cf. Song of Songs 1:3) “So I opened my mouth” (Ezekiel 3:2) and my lips dripped words. It is dated Thursday, 17 Tevet [5]545 (= December 30, 1784). The title page has a device consisting of a small unclothed boy in a garden holding a basket. On the last page is an attractive end-piece, also of a pastoral scene, her ea tree in a garden and a heron in the background. The text, in square vocalized Hebrew is organized in stanzas of four verses. The contents of the verse are praise of friendship and wisdom. Many of the verses are constructed from biblical verses, for example, “the heart hastens ‘understands and knows’ (Jeremiah 9:23) ‘for the earth shall be full of knowledge’ (cf. Isaiah 11:9) as water.”
