Detailed
Description
Full Title: Emma De Lissau; A Narrative of Striking Vicissitudes, and Peculiar Trials; With Notes, Illustrative of the Manners and Customs of the Jews.

An interesting novel about a family of Polish Jews and the changes which fate brings them. This novel is a sequel to Sophia de Lissau by the same author, first published in 1826. Several pages of notes by the author at the end of volume II discourse on Hebrew customs and teaching: it is - evident that Mrs. Bristow, though presumably a gentile, was very learned in such matters.

The list of subscribers which is appended to the book is full of noble names, mostly Scottish, such as the Duchess of Roxburghe and Viscount Strathallan, and some established book collectors such as the Earl of Gosford. However, it is unlikely that the book had more than a small circulation.
