Description		    Pictures illustrating Bible stories d by Arthur Galliner published as part of the Jüdische Jugendbücherei (Jewish Youth Library) series. The title page describes the book as Bilder zur Bibel: Erzväter / Mit einer Einführung von Arthur Galliner, that is, Biblical illustrations: Our forefathers, with an introduction by Arthur Galliner. Next is the table of contents, listing the ten parts of the text, such as Judentum und Bibel in Abentland (Judaism and the Bible in western lands); Christologishe Typen; Im Mittelalter (Middle Ages); Die Renaissance; Biblische und religiöse Darstellung (biblical and religious representation); Jüdische Künstler und biblische Kunst (Jewish artists and biblical art), and concluding with Schlussbetrachtung (final thoughts). The illustrations are both full page and inserts. They begin with a reproduction of Rembrandt’s Jacob segnet seine Enkel (Jacob blessing his grandchildren). Other pictures are also important works of art on biblical subjects, for example, Dirk Bouts’ Abraham und Melchisedek; Rubens’ Abraham und Melchisedek; and Raffael’s Die drei Engel vor Abraham; and versions of Opferung Isaaks (the sacrifice of Isaac by Ghiberti, Brundelleschi, Andrea del Sarto, and Rembrandt. The final picture is by Hebert Schmalz, Rahels Grab (Rachel’s grave). In addition to the full page paintings there are a number of artistic inserts within the text.
