A large, colorful, and illustrated memorial poster. It has a place for the name of the departed to be inserted, and one assumes, also the date of death. It is meaningfully illustrated. The phrase at the top center is: הצור תמים פעלו כי כל דרכיו משפט The Rock - His deeds are perfect; yea, all G-d’s ways are just.” (Deut. 32:4) Underneath this is an illustration of a menorah with a hourglass as its base, and a scythe and a torch crossed. And the phrase: the candle of G-d, the soul of man.
The other illustrations are: Alon Bachot – the weeping oak tree (the reference is to the oak under which Deborah, the nurse of Rebekah from her childhood, was buried – Genesis 35:8) by a flowing stream with a cemetery to the right. The inscription of the name of the departed and the date is in the center of the poster. Under that to the left is an illustration with the inscription in Hebrew " Zion in bitterness will cry", in the center is the E-l maleh rahamim prayer and to the right is an illustration of Rachel's Tomb and the phrase "Rachel weeps for her children" in Hebrew (Jeremiah 31:14). Above the illustration of the cemetery is the Hebrew phrase "Better a good name than precious oil, and the day of death than the day of one's birth" (Ecclesiastes 7:1). In the midst of the weeping oak is an insert of the earth as viewed from space with the phrase in Hebrew : "A generation goes and a generation comes and the earth remains forever." (Ecclesiastes 1:4).
The lettering appears to be early 20th century Erez Israel.
