Detailed Description |
|
This is a parody in the form of the Shulhan Arukh by the author of Shalom Bimeromav (on the legends in the Talmud.) The author, Hayyim b. Baruch Mordecai Gurland (1860-1920), was a teacher and Hebrew sofer (scribe) in New York. He was born in Kletsk and emigrated to the U.S. at the turn of the century. The last page of the book is a bitter letter from the author to his two brothers about the conditions in the United States.
