Penitential liturgies for the High Holiday period, Monday and Thursday fasts, the four fast days, sick children, plague, and other occasions following the rites of Alsace.
Alsace, former province of the Germanic (Holy Roman) Empire, and from 1648, of France, including the present department of Haut-Rhin and Bas-Rhin. Its Jewry, basically Ashkenazi, developed individual characteristics, in certain ritual matters. The Selihot of the Alsatian rite (Minhag Elzos), has been published several times in at least ten editions (for the first time in Frankfort, 1725).
