Description		    Eulogy for R. Shalom Joseph ben Israel Friedmann, R. Abraham ben Israel Teomim. R. Shalom Joseph belonged to the Ruzhin Hasidic dysnasty. He was the eldest son of R. Israel Ruzhin (Friedmann,1797–1850), who in turn was a great-grandson of R. Dov Baer, the Maggid of Mezhirech. R. Israel’s father was R. Sholom Shachne of Prohobist, son of R. Abraham ha-Malach, so known because of his separation from material comforts. R. Shalom Joseph (1813–1851) made Sadgora his center, but died in Leipzig only ten months after the death of his father. His son R. Isaac (1834–1896) was the founder of the Buhusi dynasty and was the main propagator of Hasidism in Rumania. His brothers and their descendants founded Hassidic dynasties, among them Sadigura, Chortkov, Husiyatan, Boyan, Buhush, and Vasloi. Rav Yisroel's father was Rav Sholom Shachne of Prohobist, who was a son of R' Avrohom "HaMalach" (He was given this name because of his separation from material comforts).

The title is from evel kaved (“grievous mourning,” Genesis 50:11). The text of the title page states that it is a bitter “voice of trembling we have heard [from afar] fear, and not of peace” (cf. Jeremiah 30:5). It refers to R. Shalom with great praise, noting that he was holy from birth, of holy seed, of the great R. Israel of Ruzhin. It is dated, “the fear יראת (611 = 1851) of the Lord is his treasure” (cf. Isaiah 33:6). There is an introduction from the author and then the eulogy, in two columns in rabbinic type. Excepting folios 6-7 the volume is unfoliated.
