Description		    Only edition of the responsa of R. Raphael Moses Elbaz on all four parts of the Shulhan Arukh. R. Elbaz was a scion of the renowned North African family that produced many distinguished rabbis. A talmudic scholar, kabbalist, poet, and scientist, R. Elbaz’s wrote many works, In addition to Halakhah le-Moshe, he was the author of Shir Hadash, poems (Jerusalem, 1935); and Eden mi-Kedem (Fez, 1940). Still in manuscript are many of his writings, including Kisse ha-Melakhim, a history of ancient kings and of the Jews.

Halakhah le-Moshe has an approbation from R. Jacob Saul Eliyashar, followed by introductions from the author and from two of his nephews, R. Benjamin ben Elijah Elbaz and R. Samuel ben Bezalel Elbaz. R. Elbaz writes that he did not entitle the work Halakhah le-Moshe in order to glorify himself or make his name great, for he is aware of his limited value. Rather it is so named because, as our sages have said, everything was given to Moses at Sinai and in the wilderness, so that every hiddush is a halakhah from Moses. After the introductions is a vignette of the bet ha-midrash over the grave of Rabbi Meir ba’al ha-Nes and after the text of Jerusalem zand the burial places of the kings from the house of David. The text, in two columns in rabbinic type is comprised of nine responsa on Orah Hayyim; five on Yoreh De’ah; sixty five on Even ha-Ezer; and one hundred sixty two on Hoshen Mishpat. The volume concludes with an index of the responsa.
