Polemic responsa in the matter of a woman who was granted a divorce, one year after marriage, on the discredited certification of a doctor that the husband was incapable of performing male functions. The grantor of the divorce, R. Judah Goldberg, states in his responsa that an additional consideration for granting the divorce was the offer of a substantial sum by the woman's father.
First edition of Zevi Hemed, a Torah publication issued for more than four decades, published by R. Zevi Hirsch Friedman. The title page has a pillared frame. At the top are the verses, “so I gave you a cherished land, the finest heritage” (Jeremiah 3:19) and, “His mouth is most sweet; and he is altogether lovely” (Song of Songs 5:16). The title page describes it as a publication concerned with halakhic issues and responsa. The author describes himself as the Rav, Av Bet Din of Ahavat Jeshurun in New York, a founder of the yeshiva Bet Hillel, and earlier Av Bet Din of האטסעג. The address of the press, belonging to Samuel Freidman, 140 Lewis Street, is given at the bottom and on the verso of the title page. There is a page with the names of honorees at the top, namely Hillel Kohen known as Dr. Kalin and the head of Agudat ha-Rabbunim in America, R. Israel Rosenberg (1875-1956). Below is the names of the comitte for the printing of “Zwi Chemed”. Next is a page acknowledging R. Friedman’s supporters and the text. Zevi Hemed was a highly regarded scholarly Torah publication dealing with a wide spectrum of issues in halakhah.
R. Zevi Hirsch Friedman learned by the Kidushat Yom Tov of Sighet (R. Hananiah Yom Tov Lipa of Sighet) and the Arugat ha-Bosem of Hust. He was the Av Bet Din of האטסעג, as noted on the title page, and later resided in Brooklyn. In addition to publishing Zevi Hemed he was the author of Helkenu be-Toretecha (New York, 1951), Ha-Shemesh be-Gevurato (New York, 1940). |

בראש השער: צבי חמד קונטרס ראשון. הסכמות נוספות לחלק זה נדפסו בקונטרס יג של "צבי חמד", הנקרא כח ה' הגדול והנורא. בעמ' האחרון: אברך על המוגמר... שנת... ה'י'ש'ר' ל'פ'נ'י' דרכך [תרפ"ה]. בספר נכללו קטעים רבים מתוך הספר "כחא דהיתרא" הנזכר בשער. בדף [3,א] ובעמ' האחרון מזכיר המחבר את "הקונטרס השני... אשר... קראתיו 'כח חכמים'... שיצא לאור... בשנה הזאת". לא ראינוהו.
