Title: Zur Geschichte der Juden in Worms und des deutschen Städtewesens: nach archivalischen Urkunden des k.k. Ministeriums des Aeussern in Wien.
A history of the Jews of the city of Worms based on archival documents from the ministry in Vienna by Gerson Wolf (1823–1892), Austrian historian and educator. Wolf was born in Holleschau (Holesov), Moravia. In 1849 he published a booklet Die Demokratie und der Sozialismus, which resulted in his studies at the University of Vienna being briefly interrupted. In 1852 he was imprisoned for a number of weeks on suspicion of being a revolutionary. That same year he was appointed a teacher of religion in the Vienna community. In 1884 he became inspector of its religious studies. Gerson compiled textbooks on Jewish affairs and on the Torah, and published documents on the history of the Jews in Worms, Bohemia, Moravia, and Austria (particularly of the Jews in Vienna). He also wrote biographies of I. N. Mannheimer and J. Wertheimer.
His works include: Ferdinand II und die Juden (1859); Judentaufen in Oesterreich (1863); Die Vertreibung der Juden aus Boehmen 1744 (1869); Geschichte der Juden in Wien 1156–1876 (1876); and Die alten Statuter der juedischen Gemeinden in Maehren (1880). He also published in the periodical Ha-Mazkir (1858–61) a series of articles dealing with the history of the Jews, based on documents in the archives of Vienna, Venice, Milan, and Mantua.
