Detailed
Description
Bilingual Hebrew-German Talmudic maxims by H. J. Loewenheim. The title page, in Hebrew and German, describes the volume as sayings from the Talmud, words of the sages, and riddles in alphabetic order according to the alef bet with targum Askheaz (German) and brief annotations form the author. The German text describes it as Sentenzen, Sprueche und Lebensregeln aus dem Talmud und anderen Urquellen orientalischer Weisheit. Eine reichhaltige Sammlung in hebraeischer und deutscher Sprache geordnet (Sentences, sayings and rules of life from the Talmud and other sources of eastern wisdom. A rich collection arranged in Hebrew and German language). Loewenheim’s introduction in German follows, and then the text, with Hebrew and German on facing pages, the former in square unvocallized letters, the latter in Fraktur. Entries are numbered; Leket Amarim is comprised of 315 Talmudic maxims, 38 from midrashic sources, and 50 from philosophic sources. The Talmudic and midrashic quotes have accompanying attributions and the text has brief footnotes from Loewenheim. An attractive collection of traditional Jewish proverbs.
