Description |

Derashot and hespadim by R. Aaron de Toledo (c. 1750-c. 1751). The title page states that Divrei Hafetz is discourses for all one’s wishes. The title page has a decoratiove border made up of asterisks (stars) and is dated, “to find out acceptable words למצא דברי חפץ (555 + 3 = 1795)” (Ecclesiastes 12:10). The date is followed by the words עם הכולל which means that the each of the individual words used for the date are to be included as additional units in the calculation, in this case three words are to be added to the sum, giving the correct date. There are introductions from the author and R. Joseph ben Isaac Molkho, who brought the book to press. Next is the text, set in two columns in rabbinic type excepting headers and initial words. There are fifty discourse on a wide variety of subjects. The volume conmcludes with an index of subjects. |
