Letter affirming the appointment of gaboim (sextons) for the Lemberg Jewish community, written and signed by R. Simha b. Benjamin ha-Kohen Rapoport, signed by R. Moses Jolles, signed by R. Ephraim Fishel Meisas, and signed by R. Abraham Leib Jolles.
R. Simha ha-Kohen Rapoport was the son of R. Benjamin b. Simhah ha-Kohen Rapoport, Galician preacher who lived at Brzezany toward the end of the eighteenth century. He was the author of "Gebulot Binyamin" (Lemberg, 1799), containing novellae on the Pentateuch arranged in the order of the "parashiyyot," novellae on the sayings of Rabbah bar bar Hanah, and a commentary on the Pesah Haggadah. His father in law was R. Hayyim ha-Kohen Rapoport of Ostrog, Volhynia, author of "Mayim Hayyim," responsa (Zhitomir, 1858). |
