A volume in which the author, R. Dr. Zemach Rabbiner, collected all the Talmudic explanations of Biblical synonyms. R. Dr. Rabbiner (1862-1936) was born in Bausk (in what is today Latvia). For forty years Dr. Zemach Rabbiner worked in Bulgaria, Rabbi of Sofia (from 1902) and of Plovdiv (from 1907). Member of the Central Committee of the Zionist Organization. He mastered the Judaeo-Spanish language and delivered his lectures and religious preaching in Bulgaria in that language. He declared himself to be neither Ashkenazim nor Sephardim, but a Jew. He led a secluded personal life with no family connections. He often said: “The Torah is my wife”. An erudite person. As a preacher visited all Jewish communities in Bulgaria. During the last ten years of his life was a member of the Central Consistory of the Jews in Bulgaria. A gifted speaker.
Member of the B’nai B’rith. Founder of the Association “Mickra” in Rousse which became the corner stone of the future Organization for Jewish Language and Culture. A gifted writer on religious subjects. His most considerable work is the book “The Jewish Mother in the Biblical Era” (Constantinopolis, the year of publication is unestablished) which was published together with comments by Prof. Bekhar, Dr. Ehrenpreis and other scholars. He contributed articles to foreign periodicals published in Spanish.
