Description
Vignettes of Jewish life in Erez Israel (Palestine) from Salomon Lewnsohn. The full title is Klänge aus dem Morgenlande enthaltend Schilderungen über Sittenzustände, historische Denkwürdigekeiten, Lebensweise und Gebräuche . . ., that is, Sounds from the morning country, containing descriptions of custom, historical sights, ways of life and customs, related to Palestine. The verso of the title page has a note concerning the translationof the book into English and French, followed by a dedication to the author’s oldest brother, Abraham Lewnsohm, rabbi in Peistreicscham and author a book on minhagim *Berlin, 1846), and to his youngest brother, Louis Lewnsohn, rabbi and preacher in Stockhom and also author of several works. There is a forward from the author, and then the text in a single column in Fraktur with occasional Hebrew. The text is accompanied by numerous footnotes. Klänge aus dem Morgenlande is divided into the following ten chapters, Ein Brief aus Zefat (a letter from Safed), Jerusalem, Hebron, Zefat (Safed), Tiberia, Palästinische Katakomben (Palestinian catacombs), Die Doppelhöle der Patriarchen (the cave of Machpelah), Die Königsgraft, Die Ruinen des Tempels (the Temple ruins), Klänge der Natur oder Perek Schirah (Sounds of nature or Perek Shirah).
