R. Joseph Hayyim b. Judah ha-Kohen (1851-1921), Chief Judge of the Moroccan Community in Jerusalem. R Kohen was born in Mogador and emigrated to Jerusalem at the age of 15. He led the Tuvei Yisba'u Yeshiva and was a correspondent of responsa with the greatest of his generation. He wrote Minkhat Kohen (Jerusalem 1902-10, 2 vol.) novellae on Talmud and halacha, the work carries the approbations of the entire Jerusalem rabbinate.
R. Simeon Ashriki (1860-1930) was born in Morocco and came to Erez Israel with his parents as a youngster. He was Chief Judge of the Jerusalem Sephardic community for many years. R. Simon was the stepson of R. Abraham Ashkenazi, the Rishon le-Tziyon.
