Description		    Only edition of these discourses pertaining to the troubled times and difficulties faced by the Jews by R. Nahum b. David Zevi Ash (1858-1936), rabbi and av bet din in Nieszawa and Czestochowa, Poland. There is a table of contents, enumerating the books eleven chapters, a preface and an introduction from the author, and then the text, set in a single column in square letters, concluding with errata. In the preface the author begins that the Jewish people are drowning in a sea of troubles, their cries heard in distant lands, the voice of the tears of their brothers, the voice of famine and contempt, bandits and persecutors, and the voice of the murdered and slaughtered. He writes that we think to sit in peace amidst the peoples, we should know that the troubles of our enemies will quickly come upon us. We say that we have peace, and behold, in our time hate and scorn, and no rest to be found. He has entitled this book Cos Nahumim because it represents the contents and because it also includes his name. The first chapter provides a historical-religious perspective; the second is entitled the sefer ve-ha-siaf (the book and the sword) from the Midrash Rabbah. The book provides a religious philosophical understanding of the Jewish condition, the troubles of the times and how to understand them. The text is accompanied by footnotes.
