Johannes Braun (1628-1708), German by birth, was a student of L'Empereur. In 1680 he succeeded Alting at the University of Groningen and counted Schultens among his pupils. As theologian he was a follower of Coccejus, as philosopher of Descartes. In the line of Coccejus and Alting, he was called a `judaisant', which means that Jewish tradition became part of his theology.
