Description
Clever, unusual, and attractive enumeration of the taryag mitzvot by R. Joshua ben Hayyim Weiss. The title page informs that it is built upon the word בראשית, giving the 613 taryag mitzvot and the seven rabbinic commandments al the number keter כתר (620) is alluded to in the word בראשית. The enumeration is that of Maimonides as brought in the Sefer ha-Mitzvot. It further informs that Keter Torah was written in 1938. There are approbations from R. Judah Segal Rosner, R. Baruch Friend, R. Aaron Pressburger, and R. Eliezer David Greenwald. There is a detailed introduction from R. Weiss, Birkhat ha-Torah, and then the text. Keter Torah is comprised of the mitzvot, each mitzvah beginiing with the letters בראשית rearranged as initial letters of the words spelling out the mitzvah in square letters. A brief explanation of the mitzvah follows in rabbinic type. Only three hundred-thirty mitzvot are given, for a brief note at the end explains that no more could be printed, the manuscript was lost, and the author perished in the holocaust.
