An original receipt from Kolel Schomre Ha Chomot for a donation of 1 "P" towards this charity. (There was a place to indicate how many F ____ or P____. "F" stands for florint, and "p" stands for pengo.) It is dated the 26th day of the month of Chesvan, 5698 [October 31, 1937]. There is an illustration of the grave of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yohai in the center of the top of this receipt.
The organization that is sponsoring this collection is "Vereinigte Magyar Cechoslov. Ost. Neu-Rüman u. Jugoslav. Judengemeinde Jerusalem (Palestine)" - a combined Hungarian, Czech,Austrian, Romanian, Yugoslavian Jewish organization for Jerusalem (Palestine).
The back of this receipt had two parts, both printed in Yiddish. The top is titled: Our organization supports various institutions - and then goes on to list them. They include Torah Normal School, Torah Hochshule, Yeshivat Hatam Sofer, and others such as organizations for the sick and the poor.
The bottom is a prayer in Yiddish, which is to be said before the lighting of candles (on Friday evenings and on the eves of holidays). In it, the coins of tzedakah which are usually given before the lighting of the candles, are designated for the poor people of the Holy Land …and in the merit of this donation…
