Concise necessary halakhot by R. Isaac Shimshon Malach. The title page has an attractive frame with flowers in the corners. It states that it is the laws necessary for every person entitled a Jew to know; daily, monthly, for Shabbat and festivals, whether from the Torah or rabbinic in origin. The title page is dated, “this is my name [forever], and this is my memorial זח שמי וזה זכרי (600=1840)” (Exodus 3:15). The title page is followed by approbations from R. Jacob Israel Carmi and R. Samuel Isaac Finzi. There are small woodcut tail-pieces after each approbation, the first an angel with a quiver holding flowers. Next is verse in honor of the author, and then the text, which is in a single column in square letters.
Seder Benei Yisrael begins with the manner in which a person should awake in the morning, hilkhot zizit, morning benedictions, Kriat Shema, Tefilla, Tachnun, Kriat ha-Torah, Netilat Yadiam and Birkat ha-Mazon, Hilkhot Berakhot, Minhah, Arvit, and Kriat Shema al ha-Mittah. Next are Hilkhot Shabbat, Rosh Hodesh, and then the festivals. Seder Benei Yisrael concludes with a table of contents. At the end of the volume is another woodcut tail-piece. |
