Detailed
Description
outer wrappers from the Zionist Histradut of Germany. The travel guide was apparently given out at a meeting of the Zionist Histradut of German on 11-14 September, 1922. The wrappers, with a symbolic blue border and Jewish star and a depiction of Mount Zion, have advertisements on the inner and outer flaps, as well as the back cover for Jewish establishments. The inner flap has ads for the Hotel Meir states in bold print that it is, “Berücht durch gute Küche (it is well known (blessed) for its good kitchen). It also notes that it has Elektrisch Licht, Zentralheizung, and Grosse Säle für Festlichkeitung. All of this is, Unter Aufsicht des Hamburger Speisvereins, that is, there is rabbinic supervisison. Below is an advertisement for S. Nussbaum, who specializes in Antike Uhren Jüdische Kultusgeräte. Tehre are similar ads, with menoras and Jewish stars on the back cover and in the back flap for the Hotel u. Restaurant Emanuel, also under the supervion of the Hamburg rabbinate. The booklet itself is a typical detailed tour guide book of the two locations with numerous pictures and maps, including a fold out map at the back. The rarity of this travel guide, apart from its being in the category of ephemera, items rarely retained and therefore scarce, are the wrappers, an unusual and poignant addition recalling pre-war Jewish Germany.
