Detailed
Description
A bitter letter by R. Amram b. Asher Anshel Ha-Levi Jungreis (1916-1973) appers to have been written during or immediately following the Holocaust. R. Amram was born into a prestigious rabbinical family in Dindez. He studied in the yeshivot of the Shevet Sofer and R. Jacob Ezekiel Grunwald in Pupa. A Torah scholar of great erudition, a man of impeccable character, who at the end of World War II became the Chief Rabbi of Budapest, and during the communist revolution, he escaped from Hungary and settled in Israel. He lived in Yazur, a small community near Tel Aviv, where he spent his days and nights immersed in Torah, refusing to allow even a telephone in his home for fear that it might distract him from his learning. He wrote Tiferet Amram, commentary and novellae to torah and shas as well as other works.
