Detailed
Description
Title: Alterthümer der Prager Josefstadt. Israelitischer Friedhof, Alt-Neu-Schule und andere Synagogen

A volume on both the synagogues and the cemeteries (particularly the epitaphs on the monuments) of Prague. The work was compiled by David J. Podiebrad, an Austrian writer who was born in 1816 and who died on Aug. 2, 1882. He received his education in the yeshiva of Prague and by private tuition. He was especially interested in the history of the Jews in Prague, where for thirty years he occupied the position of secretary of the Hebra Kaddisha. He collected many manuscripts and memorials concerning the Jews of Prague.

This title was reworked by Benedikt Foges (1805-1890). He was an Austrian author, born in Karolinenthal, a suburb of Prague, where he was principal of a school. A later edition appeared in 1870. The text is in German, with occasional words and phrases in Hebrew.
