Detailed
Description
R. Shalom Dover b. Samuel Schneersohn (Sholom Dovber or Rashab, acrostic of his name) (1860 - 1920) the fifth Rebbe (spiritual leader) of Habad Hasidim. R. Sholom Dover was the son of the fourth Habad Rebbe, and the father of the sixth Habad R. Rabbi Joseph Isaac Schneersohn. He is noted for establishing the first Hasidic yeshiva, Tomchei Temimim. R. Sholom Dover was a prominent opponent of Zionism, and broke with the Agudat Israel organization. His writings in Habad theology cover many volumes. Many wonderful stories are told of this great leader and the assistance and advice he offered his disciples. He passed away in 1920 in Rostov-on-Don, Russia. During the construction of the "Rostov Palace of Sport" on top of the Old Jewish Cemetery in 1966 his remains were secretly moved by a devout group of hasidim to a different burial site where they are located to this day in the "Rostov Jewish Cemetery." His gravesite is visited daily by followers of Habad-Lubavitch movement who come from all over the world.
