Description |

Only edition of the book of Hosea with an extensive commentary by R. Shimon Menahem ben Judah Leib ha-Levi Laser. The title page has Hebrew and German text, the former stating that it is a correct explanation, shedding new light on a difficult and closed book. It searches out in depth those opaque passages, explaining the meaning and intent of the words, clarifying its contents with new insights. It has the verse, “and to him who orders his way aright I will show the salvation of G-d” (Psalms 50:23). Darkhei Sefer Hoshea ve-Be’aro is dedicated by the author to his late father. There is an introduction and a preface from R. Laser. He begins the latter by stating that from the time he began to learn Bible he found the book of Hosea to be the most difficult from all the books of the prophets, and none of the commentators satisfied him, for they left verses closed and sealed and did not satisfactorily explain the meaning of the words. The result was that Hosea remained closed and not properly explained. He therefore addresses the need for a proper clear explanation of this important book of the bible. The text is comprised of Hosea at the top of the page in vocalized square letters and R. Laser’s commentary below in rabbinic type. |
